FROM DARK TO THE LIGHT SIDE: THE PROCESS OF LIGHTENING YOUR HAIR 'OLAPLEX EDITION'
OLAPLEX
The ONLY patented system to noticeably repair extreme damage and turn dry, brittle hair into soft, shiny, and more resilient hair.
You’ve been hearing all this buzz about OLAPLEX and finally want to give it a try in the salon.
Yay!
Well, just in case it seems as though your stylist is speaking a little like your high school chemistry professor, we’re here to give a little extra support in explaining OLAPLEX to you.
Hair is Hair and OLAPLEX is 110% beneficial for all hair types. Every single hair type and hair colour can benefit from being healthier.
Even virgin hair is susceptible to damage and can be improved. Whether your hair is colour treated, texture treated, virgin or anything in between you are susceptible to damage.
Curly hair, although more fragile, is broken the same way as straight hair–it’s science.
Speaking of science, let’s jump into the science behind OLAPLEX real quick.
Because who doesn’t love a mini science lesson, right?
(please keep reading I’ll make it quick i promise)
All hair types whether natural, curly, fine, straight, etc. derive most of their integrity from healthy, properly paired, disulfide bonds.
A disulfide bond is also known as a Cystine bond, Sulfur bond or S bond. These bonds are the strongest in the hair, and the protein structures of the hair shaft are held together by these chemical and hydrogen bonds. The more disulfide that occurs in the fiber, the curlier and kinkier the hair.
These bonds break when exposed to chemical, thermal, mechanical and environmental forces, resulting in single sulfur hydrogen bonds.
Now, with OLAPLEX, we’re able to relink those broken disulfide bonds and create a permanent change to the internal structure of the hair. This means rebuilding hair permanently until broken again.
Think of OLAPLEX as your hairdresser’s insurance policy.
It’s important to touch on expectations with colour corrections. Your stylist should always use good judgement as they know your hair best and what it can survive. So, if it takes you a few salon visits to carefully get to your desired colour, we recommend coming back into the salon for ‘stand alone’ treatments in between services to make sure your hair is stronger and healthier than ever to prepare for your transformation!
Oh and of course there’s the No.3. That’s your insurance policy at home to restore your hair from the thermal and mechanical styling you do on your own. You know those 500 degree flat irons or curling wands you love? Those tools tend to do even more damage than you would typically get in the salon.
How OLAPLEX Works
OLAPLEX is a patented single ingredient chemistry, free of silicone or oils, that links broken disulfide bonds in the hair during and after chemical services making them more durable than they were before. Bonds are broken in order when a chemical or textural change occurs. Chemical and textural changes can be in the form of colour and lightener to thermal styling with flat irons and curlers.
What OLAPLEX does is it finds single sulfur hydrogen bonds and cross links them back together to form disulfide bonds.
In the instance of colour services, your stylist uses OLAPLEX No.1 with colour or lighter to minimize the damage the chemicals cause in hair to create the change. Without OLAPLEX, the chemicals would break the bonds to create the change, and the bonds would stay broken. This is why hair can feel dry or appear a bit damaged after chemical services. With OLAPLEX, the chemistry works on a molecular level to minimize damage, Imagine little No.1 fighters knocking out the bad guys damaging the hair.
The same goes for OLAPLEX No.2, but envision No.2 rebuilding the hair on its own without fighting against chemicals.
No.1 is the concentrate, No.2 is the cream form, and the No.3 is a take home version of the No.2, formulated for clients.
Both No.1 and No.2 are for salon professionals only and cannot be purchased without a license, while the No.3 is available for client’s to purchase at most Olaplex Salons.
Yes, Olaplex is the bees knees however. As you may have noticed, even with OLAPLEX, damage can occur to the hair DAILY. You may be enjoying the summer sun not knowing you are exposing your hair to harsh environmental damage. Damage can occur with something as simple as brushing your hair with a cheap nasty brush you found on ‘wish’ or using a hair elastic. These are the more subtle ways damage infiltrates the hair, in addition to more noticeable methods such as chemical services. The best way to stay on top of it is by treating the hair regularly at home with OLAPLEX No.3 to ensure intensive weekly bond rebuilding.
When OLAPLEX first launched, No.3 was the only take-home product.
Over the past couple of years, OLAPLEX has launched some fantastic new products for salon and at-home use.
Each of these products contain OLAPLEX’s patented chemistry.
No.4 Bond Maintenance Shampoo and No.5 Bond Maintenance conditioner.-
Any real genuine OLAPLEX product will have OLAPLEX’s patented chemistry to rebuild broken disulfide bonds in the hair. That means, with the use of any OLAPLEX product, you will restore hair.
No.1, 2 and 3 only rebuild hair; they do nothing else. Many people confuse the No.2 or No.3 for a conditioner but it is essential to keep in mind it isn’t
No. 1, 2 and 3 do not condition or moisturize because they are bond builders, not conditioners. That is why they launched the shampoo and conditioner. Not only are you washing your hair as you normally would, now with OLAPLEX No.4 and No.5, but you’re also rebuilding bonds in the hair while you do so. More than that, they each provide intense moisture to the hair! This is the easiest way to ensure you’re rebuilding bonds and moisturizing every time you wash your hair.
Never before has your hair had more reason to shine.
OLAPLEX’s styling products No.6 Bond Smoother and No.7 Bonding Oil-
No.6 is a leave-in styling cream and that rebuilds bonds, conditions, and omits frizz for up to 72 hours! Apply to damp hair and work that baby through remembering a little goes a long way.
No.7 is a bond-building oil that adds intense shine, moisture, reduces frizz, and protects the hair from heat up to a whopping 450 degrees.
OLAPLEX helps in both preventing damage and repairing it. Everyone wants healthy, manageable shiny hair and now with OLAPLEX, that can be achieved!
